The past three years have presented many challenges. The economic downturn has affected each and every citizen. Although these are uncertain times, I am proud of the leadership and progress we have all made in Kitsap County.
- Together, we look forward to breaking ground next spring on a new YMCA in Silverdale that will serve as the anchor of the Central Kitsap Community Campus. Along with building community spirit, the YMCA is dedicated to providing support for disadvantaged children and teens.
- Kitsap County is leading our region in cleaning up Puget Sound by reducing stormwater pollution and promoting low-impact development.
- We will soon complete the acquisition of the 1,000 acre Newberry Hill Heritage Park, which is a conservation legacy for future generations to enjoy.
- Partnering with Mercy Housing, we are developing, on the Central Kitsap Community Campus, 60 affordable units of guaranteed permanent housing for seniors. The quality and care going into this housing will make anyone proud to call it home.
- Kitsap County has worked to improve local planning by completing community plans and design standards for Silverdale, Illahee, Keyport, Manchester, Kingston and Hansville over the past three four years.
- For the first time, Kitsap County established a Food & Farm Policy Council to support local agriculture and businesses by linking food production, distribution and marketing.
